Does a case’s max GPU length include front fans?
No. Most case manufacturers use an empty chassis with no radiator, filter, or front fans to measure the maximum GPU length. Depending on fan thickness and bracket design, usable clearance usually decreases by 10 to 35 mm after adding front intake fans.
How much GPU clearance do I lose with an AIO radiator?
The largest clearance loss in a small case is usually caused by a front-mounted AIO radiator, which reduces the usable GPU length by 25 to 45 mm relative to the case’s empty-chassis rating once fans and mounting hardware are stacked together.
What happens if my GPU is too long for my case?
The card physically won’t seat, either colliding with front fans, a radiator, or the case’s front panel itself. The fix is a shorter card, removing or relocating front fans, or a different case, since forcing an oversized card in risks bending the PCIe slot or damaging the card’s fan shroud.
How much clearance margin should I leave for a GPU in a small case?
Since the card’s power connector cables must have space to bend at the front without kinking against a fan or filter, it is reasonable to leave at least 10mm of margin beyond the card’s raw length. Better airflow around the shroud itself is another benefit of having more margin.
